Mumbai Metro Red Line 9 – A new chapter of easy travel from Mira-Bhayander to Colaba
Every day, lakhs of people travel in Mumbai for work, studies or other purposes. Due to increasing traffic on the road and crowd in local trains, the journey often becomes long and tiring. In such a situation, the metro has brought relief to Mumbai’s transport system. Now this change is being taken further by Mumbai Metro Line 9, which people are also calling Red Line Extension.
This line will connect Dahisar to Mira-Bhayander, and further connect to other lines, making travel easy to business hubs like Andheri, BKC and Colaba.
Route of Line 9 – From where to where will it go?
The length of Mumbai Metro Line 9 is approximately 13.58 km, of which:
- 11.386 km is elevated
- 2.195 km is underground
This line will be connected to Metro Line 7 and 7A and will further connect to many more lines.

Connectivity to other metro lines

Line 9 will not only run on its own route, but it will also connect to many other metro lines to take passengers to different corners of Mumbai.
- Metro Line 7 (Dahisar East to Andheri East)
- Metro line 2A (Dahisar West to DN Nagar) will connect with Metro Line 3 (Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ).
- Future interchanges with Metro Line 10 (Miragaon to Gaimukh) and Metro Line 13 (Vasai – Virar) are planned.
As a speedier alternative to traveling by road, reach Colaba from Mira Road through a single ticket journey without catching traffic jams.
What is the cost and how much work has been completed?
The combined project cost of Line 9 and 7A is around ₹6,607 crore, including taxes and cost escalations.
- Civil work: 96–97% complete (bridges, stations, girders etc. ready)
- Electrical and signalling system: 75% complete
- Trial run: Phase-1 (Dahisar East to Kashigaon, 4.4 km) to begin in May 2025
When will Line 9 start?
- Phase-1 (Dahisar to Kashigaon) – expected to start by the end of 2025
- Full line (up to Mira-Bhayander) – likely to start by the end of 2026
Passenger convenience – time saving
The start of Line 9 will make a big difference in travel time.
- Mira-Bhayander to Western Express Highway – currently takes 60–90 minutes, with metro it can be done in just 25–30 minutes.
- Mira Road to Andheri – Currently it takes around 1.5 hours by road, it can be less than 50 minutes by metro (Line 9 → 7 → 2A).
This will not only save time but also reduce road congestion and pollution.
Special route for office goers – to BKC, Worli and Colaba

Route 1:
- Metro 9 to Dahisar East
- From there take Metro 7 to Gundavali
- Walk on a 58 meter long foot over bridge to Western Express Highway station of Metro 1 (Versova-Ghatkopar)
- Metro 1 to Marol Naka
- From there take Metro 3 (underground) directly to BKC, Worli and Colaba
Route 2:
- Metro 9 to Metro 2A (Borivali West)
- Get down at Andheri West and reach DN Nagar station of Metro 1
- Metro 1 to Marol Naka
- Then take Metro 3 to BKC and further to Worli/Colaba

Full integration with Lines 7, 7A, 10 and 13, allowing direct connections from Mira Road to Airport and Vasai-Virar.
